What to Expect at Your First Dental Visit

A first dental visit is mostly about getting to know you. Whether it has been six months or six years since your last appointment, the goal is the same: understand your health history, take a careful look at your teeth and gums, and build a plan together.

Before you arrive

Bring a photo ID, your insurance card if you have one, and a list of any medications you take. If you have dental records or X-rays from a previous office, we can request them for you, so just let us know where you were last seen.

The exam

Your visit starts with digital X-rays, which let us see between teeth and below the gumline where problems often start. The dentist then examines every tooth, checks your gums for signs of disease, screens for oral cancer, and looks at how your bite comes together.

Your care plan

After the exam, we sit down and talk. You will hear what looks healthy, what needs attention, and what your options are, including what each one costs. Nothing happens without your questions answered first. Most first visits end with a professional cleaning, so you leave with that fresh-from-the-dentist feeling.
