That said, not everyone needs the same schedule. If you have a history of gum disease, frequent cavities, certain medical conditions, or ongoing treatment, we may recommend visits every three to four months, while some very low-risk patients can go a little longer between visits. The best schedule is based on your individual oral health and risk factors.

When should I take my child to the dentist for the first time?

Those first appointments are low-key, usually quick, and mostly about getting kids comfortable in the chair and giving parents a chance to ask questions about home care. Why do my gums bleed?

Bleeding gums are most commonly a sign of inflammation from plaque buildup, especially if they bleed when you brush or floss, which is an early sign of gingivitis. The good news is that gingivitis is often reversible with proper brushing, daily flossing, and professional cleanings. Gums can also bleed if you've just started flossing again, if you're brushing too aggressively, or because of certain medications or health conditions. But if your gums bleed regularly, are swollen or tender, or you notice bad breath or gum recession, it's a good idea to have them checked, since healthy gums generally shouldn't bleed routinely. No, our whitening won't cause irreversible damage to your enamel. The most common side effect is temporary tooth sensitivity, and we have tips to help with that. At Edison Dental Studio we use best-in-class Philips Zoom whitening: we carefully prepare your teeth and gums, apply a thin layer of advanced whitening varnish, then use the Philips blue LED lamp. We finish with an enamel-recovery gel that replenishes minerals, improves luster, and reduces sensitivity.
